DUBAI, Jan 8 (Reuters) - An affiliate of Qatari conglomerate Aamal Co plans to build three factories to produce copper wires, aluminium bars and drums for cables, projects that could make the country more self-reliant in the face of an embargo by other Arab states.

The 70,000m 2 facility has a production capacity of 40,000 tons of copper a year. It will manufacture a variety of power cables, flexible cables, building wires, earthing cables, overhead conductors, optical ground wires (OPGW) and fibre optic cables, alongside more specialised products such as heat-resistant flexible cables, fire-resistant, flame-retardant, lead-sheathed and control cables.
